Termites
Facts & Identification Information
Termites are also called the silent destroyer as they may be hiding and thriving in your yard, home or trees without any signs of visible damage. Termites consume cellulose-based plant materials. Our homes, regardless of their construction type, can provide cellulose food for termite infestation.
Termites are detritivores, or detritus feeders. Termites feed on dead plants and trees as well as dead parts of living trees, wood and wood in the soil. The termite’s mouth is capable of tearing pieces of woody material. This ability is what causes concern in our buildings: termite workers only measure approximately 1 cm to a few millimetres in length, termite feeding habits can cause costly damage to buildings and structures. Our homes, even books furniture and shelves these are all possible feeding sites for termites.
Subterranean termite nests are usually formed in soils and trees. Within these mounds, nest sites, termites build tunnel systems and mud tunnels to our homes and food sources. Drywood termites live within the wood they consume and oftentimes infest walls and furniture.
A dry wood mature colony has winged, swarming termites can be seen around the home to the windows and doors. Winged termites (alates) are very attracted to light sources and are very active in springtime after rain. After mating, the termites located in a new breeding area will create another colony, spreading termite infestations throughout multiple locations.
Treating infestations
Our company adopts the latest termite treatment and termite prevention methods. Our team is fully licenced and trained in the use of chemical applications, reticulation systems and physical barriers. As well as eradicating the entire colonies the chemical applications prevent reinfestation and excessive timber damage.
Termidor
There are many chemical treatments for termites; Termidor does not immediately kill the termites at the site of contact. Termidor works slowly on each termite giving it time for them to spread the chemical into all the parts of the colony one the queen has been killed it will lead to the eradication of the colony. Termites will transfer Termidor to where their infestation originated, future re-colonisations are reduced as the Termidor holds into the workings for many years.
